Tin (Sn)

Tin (Sn)

Known since ancient times, tin ([Kr]4d105s25p2) (CAS 7440-31-5) is a silvery-white, lustrous, malleable, ductile metal. It has a highly crystalline structure and, when tin is bent, the crystals break, emitting a crackling 'tin cry. As a result of aluminum and zinc impurities found in tin, it changes color at 13.2°C. Tin's chemicals resistance and ability to be highly polished make it useful for coating other metals to prevent corrosion.
