Lead (Pb)

Lead (Pb)

One of the oldest known metals, lead ([Xe]4f145d106s26p2) (CAS 7439-92-1) is bluish-white, lustrous, and soft. It is highly malleable, ductile, insoluble in water, and noncombustible. Lead is a poor electrical conductor and a very effective sound absorber. It is relatively impenetrable to radiation, making it an effective shield of X-ray equipment and nuclear reactors. Lead is very resistant to corrosion and is often used to contain corrosive liquids.
