Depsides and depsidones

Phenyl salicylate is used in the production of polymers, lacquers, adhesives, waxes and polishes. It acts as an antiseptic and mild analgesic. It is also used in the prevention of sunburn. It reacts with o-toluidine in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene to give the corresponding amide o-Salicylotoluide.
