Methyl salicylate is used as a flavoring agent and providing fragrance to products like chewing gum and mints. It acts as an anticoagulant by interruption of the vitamin K1-epoxide cycle. It is also used in high concentrations as a rubefacient to treat joint, muscular pain and acute pain. It is utilized as an anti-herbivore defense system in various plants. It is used as a transfer agent to get a manual copy of an image on a surface and to clear plant or animal tissue samples to be used for microscopy.
