General Description
• Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activities
• It shows antineoplastic and adrenergic activities against hormone-sensitive cancer cells
• This compound binds to its receptors and enters the nucleus activating specific nuclear receptors, resulting in an altered gene expression and inhibiting proinflammatory cytokine production
Applications
• Prednisone can reduce circulating lymphocytes, promote cell differentiation, and stimulate apoptosis in sensitive tumor cell lines
• It is considered a prodrug that is converted by the liver into prednisolone which is the active steroid compound
• It is also used in some studies to investigate the effects of daily administration of MIDD0301, on the animal and organs weights and hematological profile
