1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic anhydride is used to produce good heat-proof, weather-proof and solvent-proof trimellitate plasticizers, to synthesize polyester resins, curing agent of epoxy resins, heat-proof insulated laminas, heat-proof varnishes, stabilizers, dyestuffs, pigments, surfactants. TMA can also be used as accelerant for vulcanization, treating agent of fiber and flocculant of film. It has wide application to high class aerooil, impregnating oil for power capacitors, adhesives for granules, instant adhesives, sizing agents, antismoke agents, dyestuffs, printing inks, medicines and farm chemicals.

Hydrolyzes in water. Soluble in ethanol, acetone, and most other organic solvents.
