Bromoethane is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of ethyl group. It is widely used as solvent, as an anesthetic in medicine and as a refrigerant. It is an important component of antiknock fluid in gasoline. It is also also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals like vitamin A as well as in the manufacture of flame retardants.
