Glutaraldehyde is used as a cross linking agent for gelatin, poly(vinyl alcohol) and polyheptapeptides. It is also used as a fixative for electron microscopy and as disinfectants. It provides water resistance to protein and polyhydroxy compounds by reacting through cross linking. It acts as an intermediate for the production of resins, dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals, photographic films and for stabilization of proteins on agarose beads, activation of polystyrene and glass for immobilization of antibodies and antigens and coupling peptides onto carrier proteins.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
